Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Ps 96:1
Yeah! A new sound which I’m excited about. This song is definitely worth being added to a worship playlist; a profound reminder of the works of God to deliver His people – you and I. It’s important that you listen to songs that communicate the truth of God’s Word.
Do you have a worship playlist? Creating a functional playlist is paramount for every believer as you can put together your favorite songs in one song list and have an undisrupted worship time. So, I’ll give you tips for creating a good one, concisely.
1. Be Intentional As You Make Your Playlist.
Your Worship playlist should be made of songs that edify you at the moment. Emphasis on ”at the moment” ’cause some songs bless momentarily. Have you ever found yourself not loving a song as much as you used to? It’s probably because that song communicated truths which blessed you in the season you were in at that time. So, know the season you are in and selectively pick out songs that edify. However, there are songs which edify in every season.
2. Your Playlist Should Communicate The Truth.
I’m sorry guys but I cannot listen to every Christian song out there because sadly, not all communicate the Truth of God’s word to me. I’ll give an instance, ”Cast me not away from Your Presence. Please don’t take Your Spirit from me” -This psalm was written by King David in the Old Testament when God’s Spirit ”came upon” and did not ”dwell within”. Now, Christ intelligibly said that He’s made His abode in anyone who believes in Him. He doesn’t live in temples structured by man but His Spirit lives in you and will never leave you. Truths like these are what you should be fed with.
3. Try To Update Your Playlist.
When last did you sing a new song to God? Take delight in praising Him with new songs. Most people worship with songs they were taught when they were children. Try to learn new songs as this gives a bit of zing into your relationship with Him. It’s quite boring to sing the same songs over and over again and that’s why it’s important that one intentionally creates his offline playlist. New songs which no longer stir up His Spirit in you should definitely be replaced as well.
More so, aside from worship playlists, you should create playlists for hangouts. These songs are often ones with tunes you can dance to. However, ensure you select songs that say something edifying. You can also make playlists for studying, and sleeping; preferably instrumentals.
Having the right songs on your playlist will definitely cause you to grow spiritually. Listen to Bob Kauflin on this:
We remember what we sing, and nothing is more important to remember than God’s Word. Music-produced feelings will fade, but God’s living and active Word will continue working in our hearts, renewing our minds, and strengthening our faith.
I hope you create your playlist today.
Lyrics of Hero By Jubilee Worship:
Verse 1:
I feel it on my skin
Your power at work within
No battle that we can’t win
Our great God
Verse 2:
You fill graves with my shame
Cast all my fears away
What power is in Your name
Our great God
Pre-Chorus:
I’ll risk my reputation
To tell the world who I’m chasing
Jesus, my one obsession
My all in all
Chorus:
And we cry oh oh oh
To our Hero
We cry oh oh oh
To our King
We cry oh oh oh
To our Hero
We cry oh oh oh
To our King
Bridge;
You’ll stop at nothing to save Your people
You’ll shatter mountains to get to me
No army behind me, no ocean before me
No curse will prevail, You’ll get to me
