Being A Light.
The news speculating that Christian artists shouldn’t minister in non Christian gatherings is quite bothersome. Note, I wrote “minister”. There’s nothing wrong in exalting the name of God even in a secular gathering. Well, except in Spiritually uncomfortable conditions.
The most important thing is that God is glorified. Some christians make me wonder if we are only to be lights amongst ourselves (believers). The bible states that a man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men. There was no restriction to the “great men” being believers. It just says “great men”. Gentiles are meant to come to our light and kings to the brightness of our rising. Non believers are to be ministered to.
Remember the story of Joseph- Gen 41:12-14. Joseph’s gift brought him before Pharaoh, the monarch of Egypt. This monarch desperately called Joseph to minister to him. Though he wasn’t a man that feared God but God had a purpose to provide for His peculiar people (The Israelites) during the famine, so He made Joseph minister his gift (dream interpretation) to him (Pharaoh) which made way for him to become the governor. I love to think of it this way- God created an opportunity for Joseph’s light to be shone for His Glory. Well, you know the rest of the story. So yes, I believe there should be no limit to where you shine your light. Only make sure you do not compromise. Make sure God’s leading you.
Believers are the light of the world as Christ said. However, we sometimes find ourselves make excuse as to why we couldn’t stand up for what we believed in when an opportunity was set before us, etc. It seems a lot easier to compromise. After all, everyone’s doing it. We forget the fact that light can only be recognized in a place that was dark. Meaning, to be light in a place, there had to have been darkness before. The point is, being different should not surprise you. A light will always be distinct and unavoidable. Hope you get the picture.
I know it’s quite difficult to voice out The Truth in this world. But if we don’t, who will? Everyone says the world is revolving and we should conform to its change. God’s standard cannot change. It’s the same from the time of old. Let’s be careful not to replace biblical principles with principles of men. I fear what would become of this world in years to come if God’s principles slowly dissipate and destandardize.
When God places opportunities for you to shine, be witty and do not compromise.
May God help us.
